BMW 5 Series: Enabling the rear seat
General information
It is only possible to make rear seat enable settings via iDrive in the front.
Adjusting
Limited rear operation
1. "CAR".
2. "Settings".
3. "General settings".
4. "Rear-seat entertainment".
5. "Operation limited".
Only the following function can be accessed in the rear in this setting: "MEDIA".
Individual Entertainment:
- Same entertainment source in the front and rear: If the same entertainment source is selected in the front and rear, it is only possible to adjust the settings for the entertainment source in the front. If, for instance the radio is being listened to in the front and the rear, the station can only be changed in the front.
- Different entertainment sources in the front and rear: When different entertainment sources are selected in the front and rear, settings can be adjusted for the active entertainment source in the rear.
Theater mode:
- The Theater mode can only be activated or deactivated in the front.
- The settings for the entertainment source or volume of the played back entertainment source can only be adjusted in front.
Permitted rear operation

4. "Rear-seat entertainment".
5. "Rear-seat operation enabled".
- Same entertainment source in the front and rear: If the same entertainment source is selected in the front and rear, settings can be adjusted for this entertainment source in the front and rear. If the radio is being listened to in the front and the rear, for instance, the station can be changed in the front and the rear.
- Different entertainment sources in the front and rear: When different entertainment sources are selected in the front and rear, settings can be adjusted for the active entertainment source in the rear.
Switching off rear entertainment
1. "CAR".

4. "Rear-seat entertainment".
5. "Disable rear-seat operation".
Rear entertainment is switched off and cannot be switched on again from the rear.
Select one of the two rear seat enable settings to switch the rear entertainment back on.
